The Miami Aikikai is a member of the United States Aikido Federation (USAF), which is under the direction of Yoshimitsu Yamada, 8th Dan, Shihan. This organization is recognized by Hombu dojo (original school) in Japan.
The Miami Aikikai was founded in 1978 by Sensei Nelson Andujar, who now holds the rank of Nanadan (7th degree black belt) and has been conferred the title of Shidoin. He began his Aikido practice in the 1960's at the New York Aikikai, under the direct supervision of Yamada Sensei. Andujar Sensei relocated to Texas in 1996 but has remained in Miami in spirit. Fortunately for the Miami Aikikai, Andujar Sensei visits us and teaches special classes and seminars held throughout the year.
Currently Eliot W. Rifkin, 6th dan, Shidoin and Gustavo Ramos, 6th dan, Shidoin are the Chief Instructors at the Miami Aikikai. They are grateful for the long time support and assistance of the other yudansha rank, particularly the teaching by Ayal Joshua, 5th dan and Jesus Delgado, 4th dan.
